What to Expect During Your Brow Healing Process (Day by Day)
Getting your dream brows is an exciting journey. Whether you’ve opted for Nano Brows in Austin, Powder Brows Austin, or a Brow Cover-Up in Austin, understanding the day-by-day healing journey is essential. Each method has the same healing timeline, but Nano Brows is a way less intense healing process than Powder Brows.
In this detailed guide, we’ll break down exactly what you can expect during your brow healing process, how to care for your brows, and when you’ll see your final, beautiful results.
Why the Healing Process Matters
Your brows go through several stages after a brow tattoo procedure. Knowing what’s normal and how to handle each phase helps prevent panic and ensures optimal healing. The healing process is a partnership between you and your brow artist. You’ve invested in your brows, so let’s make sure they heal perfectly!
Microblading
I stopped offering Microblading as a service about 2 years ago because honestly… everything about Nano Brows is better for the client. It’s less traumatizing to the skin, lasts longer, heals more consistently, and I can do more artistically. You still get the same “hair stroke” look with Nano Brows!
Nano Brows
Nano Brows have got to have the easiest healing of all time! They get 20-30% the first few days, and then lighten up as the 2nd week approaches. There is little to no flaking, although some people may experience minor itching days 4-8. All you need to do is wipe the brows morning and night with the provided sterile water wipes for the first 5 days, and make sure to not get sweaty or go in the sun for more than a few minutes.
Powder Brows
Powder Brows on the other hand can have a more intense experience for the client. The healed result will fade 50% In the first 2 weeks.
Day 1-3: Bold, Dark, and More Defined.
What to Expect: Your brows will look darker and more defined than expected at first, which is normal. Mild pinkness from tattooing can make them appear slightly warm or orange, but this will fade in a few days to reveal the color you and your artist chose
How to Care:
Wipe brows morning and night with the provided sterile water wipes
Apply a small amount (rice grain sized) of the provided healing ointment with a fresh q-tip morning and night for the first 5 days
Day 3-7: Tattooed skin begins to flake off
What to Expect: Flaking, peeling, and itching are normal during this first week. It might look like your brows are disappearing, but they aren’t. What is really happening is that a new layer of skin has formed over the top of the tattoo. While they are in their flaking phase, this can make sections of the brow appear to have completely disappeared. At week 5, the deeper tattooed skin will rise to the surface and the tattooed brows will re-emerge.
How to Care:
Do NOT pick or scratch at the flakes, let it fall off naturally.
Continue to wipe brows with the sterile water wipes and applying healing cream morning and night.
Day 7- 14: Tattoo lightens up 50%
What to Expect: Your tattoo will lighten up drastically. What may have felt like harsh, bold brows, will soften into a beautiful, natural brow color and shape! The brows will be significantly lighter until around week 5
Week 2 - Week 5: Color Starts Settling
What to Expect: Your brows start evening out, and the color becomes more consistent. The deeper tattooed skin re-emerges to the surface around week 4/5, causing the pigment to blossom back a little more. Week 5 is when you can finally assess your healed results from the first session and keep or postpone your touch up.
Week 6 - Week 12: Touch up Time?
What to Expect: About 50% of people need a touch up in the first 2-3 months. HOWEVER, if you are 8/10 happy with your healed results, I recommend pushing your touch up out to a later date. We don’t want to chase perfection, but enhancement of the natural brows instead. Chasing perfect brows that you never have to think about or do anything to will lead to an unnatural looking brow tattoo— Something we want to avoid!
Tips for a Smooth Healing Process
Avoid sweating, direct sun exposure for more than a few minutes, and don’t submerge your head in lake or pool water.
Don’t pick, rub, or scratch your brows. Try not to touch them, and if you do need to, make sure you’ve washed your hands with soap and water.
No makeup, lotions, potions, or retinols for the first 2 weeks.
Stay patient, the healing process can be a wild rollercoaster!
